Don't Eat the Dog

Oregon mushroom pickers contribute to the Search & Rescue stereotype of "group most likely to become lost in the woods."

In three days, you think that by following drainages down, they could have found a road, given all the logging roads in the Coast Range, but maybe there were factors that the news accounts leave out.

"They spent the nights huddled in a hollow log and considered sacrificing their pit bull, Jesse, for food.

"She's that good a dog, she'd have done it, too," Conne said."

What, was the dog going to sacrifice herself by jumping off a cliff???

... or, after spending a week starving within what a fit dog would consider a short jaunt from where she knew there was warmth and food, did the dog just come to the realization that her fate was controlled by a pack of clueless dimwits, was she maybe just looking for any way out?

One of these days someone will write the definitive book on the subject -- "Lost nuts in the woods"

Janeen: I had this image of the dog voluntarily lying down, exposing its throat. Ugh.

Codger: Meanwhile, I have the blog. The best stories seem to involve GPS or mushrooms.
