That is a very cool photo of a critter that, for me at least, is hard to get to see! I'll be curious to hear or see what else comes down to your sunflower seeds as the weather turns colder. Bears for sure, I'd think. Too high for raccoons?
Do you guys have ringtails up there? That would be very cool! I've seen them as roadkill in the Trans-Pecos, but have yet to encounter one out and about. I'd think the stream and plum thickets would lend themselves to ringtails as well as raccoons, especially if you have some rock formations around.
Ringtails are elusive as can be. I think I have seen one in the last decade, dashing across the county road as I came home late at night.
A friend had a similar experience in the rocky (check!) canyon up the highway from us.
But I found some odd scats on the back porch of our guest house last winter, and something small was sleeping cat-like on one of the porch-chair cushions when there was snow on the ground. So just maybe...

Actually, because there is a stream close by with big willows and cottonwoods plus plum thickets, etc., we do have some raccoons around.
ReplyDeleteBut what I would really like to photograph is a ringtail.
