More likely they were for two pet animals, small dogs or cats. We found them near a Forest Service road when we first moved here in 1992, and they looked pretty much the same back then. The Mason Gulch Fire of 2005 missed them by a few yards.
I wonder if whoever buried them there ever comes back for a visit.

There is or was a child's grave just next to Hwy 9 as you start climbing the hill at the south end of Breckenridge. It's on the west side of the road, just south of the convenience store/gas station. Lonely little place.
ETA: Just took a look on Google Maps, looks like it's wall to wall condos now, go figure. There might be just enough dirt between the condos and the road that it's still there, don't know, though. Progress, cram as many condos as possible into every square foot.
