I thought I had hit the jackpot when we discovered a small stand of trees growing up behind a small creek in the greenbelt behind our suburban house. Safe nature haven! Automatic secret forts! It was obvious that other kids had found the trees, too--there was a board nailed up here and there to make a seat, a part of an old tire formed a stool nestled in the roots.

Oh, I have to show this to my students! (We read Richard Louv's book last semester ....)
M. wants to use it in her human-development (psychology) class as well.

Last week, the HOA cut the trees down.
