The human-animal bond

Aside from quoting the bogus Chief Seattle speech, this Australian site looks good. But there is a "ghost" among all these papers on "animals and the elderly, "pets in the workplace," and so forth. I see little mention of the original dog-human bond: hunting together.

On the other hand, one paper suggests how wolves influenced humans.

Once I remarked to a friend, about some badly behaved character, "Who raised him? Wolves?'

"Oh, no," said my friend. Wolves would have taught him far more manners."

"Hmmmm. Is it too late to turn him over to them now?"

The 27 June issue of High Country News had a stand-alone photo of a naked toddler down on all fours drinking from a dog's water dish, with the caption, "...yes, he was raised by wolves, why?"

Thanks for your comments, Chas.

Chief Seattle quote bogus? Who should I attribute it to then?

Got some journal citations on hunting with dogs...? Please send them.
