Why Supermarket Tomatoes Have No Taste

It's an unintended consequence of breeding for that nice red color.

The real question is why do people keep buying tomatoes that are so tasteless?

One thing I learned watching Alton Brown on the Food Network--never refrigerat a tomato. He said it turns off the flavor, and it will not come back when/if the tomato is warmed up again. Enzymes or such, IIRC.
