What the Bears are Eating - 2

Bear scat with plum pits. 13 Oct. 2007. Photo by Chas s. CliftonOur bears have moved on from eating squawberries to finishing off the last of the wild plums, to judge by this evidence. Those lighter brown lumps are plum pits.

The internet: where you can find validation from other people who understand your need to closely examine random piles of shit.

I didn't have a camera at the time, but years ago came across a bunch of bear scat in western NM where the bear had been eating juniper berries by the hundreds, then passing them with little or no digestion taking place. From the plentiful sign, he either really liked the taste or couldn't figure out why his stomach emptied so quickly. Those plum pits (ouch!) reminded me of it.
